About the Experience
Sea of Cortez
Mobula Ray And Orca Expedition
7 Nights/ 8 Days
From mid-May to July, thousands of Mobula rays aggregate in the deep south of the Sea of Cortez, and Nautilus Dive Adventures is excited to unveil a new expedition to witness the Mobula migration first-hand aboard the Nautilus Gallant Lady, for a special Scuba Fest price.
We’ve been plying the Sea of Cortez since 1974 and know some of the best, secret spots for unique animal encounters. On this week-long voyage on the Gallant Lady, experience the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to snorkel and free dive with Mobula rays and predatory pods of orcas.
Aside from mingling with mobulas and orcas, witness huge pods of dolphins and even the possibility of sperm and fin whales. Mobula rays often like to breach the surface, so there will be ample opportunity to witness these gravity-defying acrobatics out of the water, whether while sipping on an icy beverage on deck or getting up close and personal on a kayak. This is the perfect trip for both divers and snorkelers.
This adventure is mostly snorkeling and freediving, however, scuba diving will be available for night dives and one day at Cabo Pulmo.
To finish off the trip, kayak, paddleboard, snorkel, and hike on the beautiful, protected Isla Espiritu Santo, before tucking into a delicious beachfront barbecue.2

Aboard Gallant Lady
The Flying Rays of the Sea of Cortez
Seeing the color variations and geometric patterns of these rays as they dance underwater is a hypnotizing sight and a dream for photographers. Above water, these rays have earned a reputation for their acrobatic prowess. Hailed as the flying rays of the Sea of Cortez, rays are typically five to seven feet across, and witnessing males leaping out of the water, wings (pectoral fins) flapping, is an unforgettable sight. More athletic individuals can reach an altitude of ten feet or more, and while it’s a guess on our part, we believe that the higher the boys jump, the more impressed the girls are!
